Free Software Download

AstroWin

Download Allen Edwall's AstroWin v.1.6 (includes Horary Analyser). Installation instructions included on separate readme file (please read now and copy or print out for future reference). Please not that we do not offer further support on installation or usage. Please address all queries to the software author.

This program will cast and store birthcharts, but please not that it does not include a gazetteer of latitudes and longitudes for birthplaces, nor time zone correction - you will need to visit Astrodienst Time Zone Atlas to find these out. You may wonder why bother with AstroWin at all if you have access to the chart calculation facility at www.astro.com - the answer is that you can store unlimited charts with Astrowin but only four on the astro.com website.

For newer versions of Astrowin, please visit www.astrowin.org . Please note that versions after 1.6 do not include the Horary Analyser, now sold commercially. On Allen's site  he has a variety of free of inexpensive astrology software, and there are some very interesting articles.

AstroClock

Rod Suskin's excellent little utility (for PCs, although he's working on a Mac version) shows you where the planets are now, and updates itself through the day. Brilliant for keeping an eye on your transits, for horary and for astrometeorology!

Software (Mac)

Reviewed by Kris Lee.

As a rule of thumb, Mac astrology software is not as fully-featured for your money as Windows programs, but maybe you don’t need to overwhelm yourself with converse precessed midpoints. They give excellent graphic output and have the Mac’s legendary ease of use. And Macs running OSX just don’t crash !

All websites have sample screen shots and demo downloads are available for you to try the program, unless indicated below.

OSX and earlier

Io series
http://www.timecycles.com. The longest-standing Mac astrology program is a complete modular, professional package, with fully-customisable screen display and chart output options, real time charts and astrocartography. No demo download.

Time Passages
http://www.astrograph.com. Recent addition to the Mac is potential usurper for Io and is cheaper. Covers all the fundamental charts you need and includes interpretations (in US English though). Online demo.

L’astrologue
http://www.algenib.com/LAstrologue_US.shtml . Despite its name, this does run in English ! For €49 (about £35) you get a great-looking OSX programme that does all the basics.

OS9 and Classic only

Kairon
http://Kilian.Stern.net Extensive range of features - and it's free.

Astrolomy
http://www.xs4all.nl/~fabre Shareware program that also incorporates astronomical information such as star charts and comets.

Astroquick http://www.astroquick.fr/astrology/astrology_shareware.htm
Cheap shareware version is fine for beginners and can be upgraded to “basic” and “professional” modules.

Astrolog
http://www.astrolog.org/astrolog.htm
Free but that’s about all to commend it. Has innumerable features but command-line interface is a pain to use. Only useful for a very old Mac.

Software (Palm/PDAs)

Reviewed by Graham Boston

Astropocket 3 Astropocket author Yves Robert has brought out version 3 of his software, which has Delphi's more accurate calculation routines, as well as the ability to show two charts at once and do composite charts and progressions. Also has automatic time zone and daylight savings time database (v. useful)! Cost: $28.00 (approx £19). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Delphi calculates accurate horoscopes and also has a built-in astro-clock, so you can keep track of where the planets are right now! It has a database of cities, complete with Time Zone and Daylight Savings Time information, but this is limited to one or two cities per country, so you will need to find out the latitude and longitude of the birthplace...The amazing thing about this program is that it is completely RECOMMENDED (AND FREE OF CHARGE!)

1Horoscope Good value straightforward chart calculation software for the Palm PDA or the Handspring Visor. Cost: approx £17.00 to register, although you can try before you buy. Not as accurate as Delphi, nor as comprehensive as Astropocket, but comes with simple interpretation files.
